ANKARA, July 5 — Türkiye has unveiled its National Green Finance Strategy and Action Plan for 2026-2029, a framework designed to accelerate the country’s shift toward a sustainable economy. The circular bearing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s signature was published in the Official Gazette. The Treasury and Finance Ministry said the strategy was prepared under its coordination, with input from all relevant ministries, financial regulators, and private-sector stakeholders.
For families across the region watching Türkiye’s economic direction, this signals a coordinated push to align financial markets with climate goals. The strategy aims to strengthen Türkiye’s green finance ecosystem, build resilience in financial markets against climate-related risks, and improve the investment environment for sustainable development.
It focuses on priority policy areas including wider adoption of green regulations in financial markets, stronger market infrastructure for the green transition, and better coordination among stakeholders. Three main goals anchor the plan. The first is establishing the necessary infrastructure for a transparent and measurable green finance ecosystem.
The second focuses on strengthening institutional capacity and human capital in green finance. The third involves creating market mechanisms to develop green finance further.
Eleven objectives and 45 specific actions sit under these goals. For communities, this means a more structured approach to how money flows into clean energy projects and sustainable industries across the country. Türkiye’s role as host and president of the upcoming 31st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change adds weight to the timing.
The strategy positions the country to lead by example as it prepares to welcome global delegates for COP31. What comes next will be watched closely by investors and households alike. The action plan’s success depends on how quickly those 45 actions translate into real changes in lending, investment, and energy costs for ordinary people.
