The newly completed Huajiang Canyon Bridge in Guizhou Province has officially opened to traffic, claiming the title of the highest bridge on the planet. Its deck hangs 625 metres above the Beipan River, surpassing the previous record held by the Duge Bridge, which spans the same river roughly 200 kilometres upstream.

Designed as an alpine suspension bridge, the structure stretches across a deep, rugged canyon that had long acted as a natural barrier.
