MUMBAI, July 11 — Commuters on two of Mumbai’s suburban rail corridors should prepare for service changes next Monday, as Central Railway has scheduled a mega block for maintenance work. The block, set for July 13, 2026, will affect the Main Line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Vidyavihar, as well as the Harbour Line between CSMT and Chunabhatti or Bandra. The disruption on the CSMT–Vidyavihar UP and DOWN slow lines is scheduled to run from 10:55 am to 3:55 pm.
For passengers on the Main Line, the changes are straightforward but will require attention to platform announcements. DOWN slow services that depart CSMT between 10:48 am and 3:45 pm will be diverted to the DOWN fast line during the block period.
These diverted trains will make scheduled stops at Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, and Kurla. Passengers heading to stations beyond these points will need to plan alternative connections. The Harbour Line will see a different kind of adjustment.
Special train services will operate between Panvel and Kurla during the block, providing a dedicated connection for Harbour Line commuters. Additionally, Harbour Line passengers can travel on Main Line and Western Railway services between 10 am and 6 pm, offering a broader range of alternative routes during the disruption.
Central Railway has not specified the exact nature of the maintenance work prompting the block, but such scheduled closures are common on the suburban network for track maintenance, signal upgrades, and safety inspections. The timing of the block — mid-morning to mid-afternoon on a Monday — suggests an effort to minimise impact on peak-hour commuters, though afternoon travellers will still face delays. The encouraging part for regular passengers is that the railway authorities have provided clear diversion plans and alternative services.
Patients and others with medical appointments in the city should talk to their doctor or clinic about potential delays, and allow extra travel time if they must be at a hospital or treatment centre during the block hours. For those who rely on the Harbour Line, the ability to use Main Line and Western Railway services from 10 am to 6 pm represents a significant backup option. Passengers should check platform indicators and listen for announcements, as train routes may change with short notice.
The mega block is a single-day event, and normal services are expected to resume after 3:55 pm on the Main Line and by 6 pm on the Harbour Line. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and, as always, consult their local railway information or station master for the most current updates before heading out.
