Ondo Private Markets: Revolutionizing Access to Private Company Shares

NEW YORK, October 12 — Ondo Finance launched Ondo Private Markets on October 5, 2026, a platform that allows eligible investors to acquire tokenized exposure to the economic performance of leading private companies before they go public. The company said the platform will launch with permissionless trading for a pre-IPO AI company, followed by expansion into sectors like robotics, cybersecurity, biotech, infrastructure, and more.

Data shows that over the 20 years ending December 2025, U.S. private equity funds delivered annualized returns of 13.2%, net of fees, compared with 11.3% for an S&P 500 public-market equivalent. Officials noted that Ondo Private Markets aims to democratize access to private markets, which have historically offered limited liquidity and high minimum investments.

The platform allows investors to trade notes linked to the per-share value of referenced companies at qualifying liquidity events, offering 24/7 trading and self-custody wallet options. Investors can now access private market opportunities through blockchain-based instruments without traditional barriers to entry. Private market investments have traditionally been accessible primarily to institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals due to high minimum capital requirements and limited liquidity.

Over the past two decades, private equity has emerged as a significant asset class, often delivering returns that outperform public market benchmarks, though with longer investment horizons and less transparency. The growing interest in alternative assets has been driven by investors seeking diversification and exposure to high-growth sectors before they become widely available on public exchanges.

Advancements in blockchain technology and tokenization have enabled new models for fractional ownership and trading of assets that were previously illiquid. Tokenized securities allow for the representation of economic interests in private companies through digital instruments that can be traded on decentralized or permissionless platforms, potentially lowering barriers to entry. Regulatory frameworks around such innovations continue to evolve, with market participants emphasizing compliance with existing securities laws while exploring new avenues for investor access.

The launch of Ondo Private Markets reflects a broader trend of financial innovation aimed at expanding access to private market opportunities through technology. By leveraging blockchain-based infrastructure, the platform seeks to address longstanding challenges in private markets, including illiquidity, high entry thresholds, and limited transparency. As interest in pre-IPO investments grows, such platforms may play an increasing role in reshaping how retail and qualified investors engage with private company growth trajectories.
