Jaipur Famous Landmark

JAIPUR, August 4 — The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) has officially announced its upcoming state visit to Jaipur, Rajasthan, on August 31 and September 1, 2024. This consultation phase is a vital step in its nationwide process, signaling a direct engagement with local employee associations, federations, and representative groups. For communities and families across the region, this visit is a significant opportunity.

The commission’s purpose is to gather critical inputs regarding salary structures, allowances, and pension revisions specifically for central government employees. These consultations are a standard procedural step in revising compensation frameworks, ensuring inputs from diverse stakeholders are incorporated before finalizing recommendations that will impact many lives.

Stakeholders based in Rajasthan who wish to participate must submit their appointment requests on or before August 18, 2024. The official notification, available on the commission’s portal at 8cpc.gov.in, outlines the requirements: participants must have previously submitted formal memoranda and provide their unique memo identification details during the online application process. Approved representatives will then receive specific details regarding the exact venue, timings, and scheduling.

A City of History and Community

The choice of Jaipur as a consultation site underscores its importance as a major urban center. As the capital and largest city of the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan, Jaipur is home to a significant population, recorded at 3.1 million as of 2011. The city, often affectionately known as the Pink City due to the distinctive colour scheme of its buildings in the old city, sits 268 kilometers (167 miles) from the national capital, New Delhi.

Jaipur’s rich history begins with its founding in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, the Kachhwaha Rajput ruler of Amer, after whom the city is named. It stands as one of the earliest planned cities of modern India, designed with careful consideration by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya.

Initially, Jai Singh II sought to shift his capital from Amber due to a growing population and increasing scarcity of water, establishing Jaipur based on principles of Vastu Shastra and Shilpa Shastra. During the British colonial period, it served as the capital of Jaipur State, and after Indian independence in 1947, it became the capital of the newly formed state of Rajasthan in 1949.

Gateway to Rajasthan’s Heritage

Beyond its administrative role, Jaipur is a popular tourist destination, forming a key part of the Western Golden Triangle tourist circuit alongside Delhi and Agra. It serves as a gateway to other renowned destinations across Rajasthan, including Jodhpur and Udaipur, and boasts two World Heritage Sites: Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and Jantar Mantar. The city itself was placed on the World Heritage Cities list on July 6, 2019, reflecting its global cultural significance.

Its beauty has earned it monikers such as the ‘Paris of India,’ and C.V. Raman once called it the “Island of Glory.” The city’s unique ‘pink’ appearance dates back to 1876 when, during the rule of Sawai Ram Singh II, it was painted pink to welcome Albert Edward, Prince of Wales.

This distinctive tradition continues today. The 19th century saw rapid growth for Jaipur, with its population reaching 160,000 by 1900. During this period, its wide boulevards were paved, and industries like metalwork and marble thrived, fostered by an art school founded in 1868.

This upcoming visit by the 8th CPC is part of ongoing data collection efforts, a broader process to formulate new salary recommendations for central government employees. What this means for people and their families across the nation will hinge on the detailed recommendations that emerge from these crucial dialogues in historic settings like Jaipur.
