SARASOTA, July 18 — Trump Media & Technology Group, the Florida-based operator of the Truth Social platform, has posted back-to-back quarterly losses that, under the hood, are sizable even by the standards of cash-burning startups. The company reported a $605.5 million loss for the fourth quarter of 2025 and a $405.9 million loss for the first quarter of 2026. Those figures come with a technical reality: the bulk of the losses appear tied to non-cash charges, but the market’s reaction has been unambiguous.
TMTG’s market capitalisation slid from $3.65 billion in December 2025 to roughly $2.47 billion by May 2026. The company stated it ended 2025 holding $2.1 billion in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments — enough, on paper, to absorb continued operational burn.
Whether that cushion buys the time needed to turn Truth Social into a profitable concern is the detail that matters.
Heavy Losses and a Shrinking Valuation
The two quarters paint a stark picture. A $605.5 million loss in Q4 2025 is no rounding error, and the $405.9 million loss in Q1 2026, while smaller, still dwarfs the revenue the platform is believed to generate. The market capitalisation drop of more than a billion dollars in six months signals that investors are pricing in a long road to profitability.
TMTG’s cash pile — $2.1 billion — provides a buffer, but as ever with such burn rates, the clock is ticking. The company was founded in February 2021 by Andy Litinsky and Wes Moss.
It went public on March 26, 2024, through a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp., a special-purpose acquisition company that had itself begun trading on Nasdaq on September 3, 2021, after an initial public offering of 25 million shares. The SPAC route was meant to fast-track TMTG to the public markets.
A SPAC With Shanghai Ties
DWAC was created with the help of ARC Capital, a Shanghai-based firm whose specialty is listing Chinese companies on U.S. stock exchanges. ARC was at the time under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission for alleged misrepresentations concerning shell corporations. The venture was linked to China Yunhong Holdings until December 2021, when the lead banker promised to sever the connection.
Reuters reported in February 2022 that the ties between ARC and DWAC ran deeper, including that ARC had offered money to start the SPAC. TMTG raised $1 billion in private investment in public equity funding in December 2021.
It also entered a technology and cloud services agreement with Rumble to operate part of Truth Social and TMTG+, a planned subscription-based streaming service.
Regulatory Scrutiny and Board Shuffles
The SEC and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority began investigating DWAC’s communications with TMTG in December 2021, long before the merger closed. That probe — along with a grand jury subpoena that followed — hung over the deal and contributed to repeated delays. The merger vote was postponed first in November 2022 and again in September 2023, before eventually closing in March 2024.
The company’s board initially included Donald Trump Jr., Devin Nunes, and former Trump administration officials Robert Lighthizer, Kash Patel, Linda McMahon, and Scott Glabe. Nunes resigned from the U.S. House in December 2021 and became TMTG’s chief executive in January 2022.
Truth Social launched on February 21, 2022. In June 2022, Trump and five others — including Trump Jr., Patel, and Glabe — left the board shortly before SEC and grand jury subpoenas were issued. The detail that matters: the board exits preceded the subpoenas, not the other way around.
The company’s largest shareholder remains the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, giving the former president a direct financial stake in the platform’s performance.
TMTG is headquartered in Sarasota, Florida.
What to Watch Next
The question now is whether TMTG can narrow those losses before the $2.1 billion cash reserve erodes significantly. The company has not yet provided guidance for Q2 2026. The cloud-services deal with Rumble may offer a path to cost savings, and the streaming service TMTG+ is yet to launch at scale.
Investors will be watching the next quarterly filing for any sign that the burn rate is slowing. The technical reality, as ever, is unforgiving: a cash pile is only an asset if you can stop digging.
