MUMBAI, July 21 — India’s jewellery retailer DP Abhushan has reported a 77% year-on-year surge in profit after tax for the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27, a result that underscores the continued strength of consumer spending in the domestic gold and gems market. The company posted a profit after tax of Rs 64.45 crore for the three months ended June 2026, according to a statement released on July 20. That compares with the same period a year earlier, when the figure stood at a markedly lower level.

The industry also faces periodic headwinds from volatile global gold prices and changes in import duties, which can influence both consumer buying patterns and retailer margins.

The broader retail environment has also been shaped by evolving consumer preferences for lightweight and contemporary designs, as well as rising penetration of e-commerce channels.

The reported profit jump comes against a backdrop of sustained consumer spending in India, despite persistent concerns about inflation and interest rates. Jewellery retailers often benefit during periods of economic expansion, as disposable incomes rise and discretionary spending on luxury and semi-luxury goods increases.
