Vertex Headquarters

September 3 — Vertex, an indirect tax and compliance technology company, has made three senior appointments to its leadership team as it prepares for its next stage of expansion. The company announced that Chatelle Lynch has joined as chief people officer, Carlos Mercuriali has been named senior vice-president and regional manager for Europe, and Bala Chandran takes up the role of chief product and technology officer. The additions broaden Vertex’s leadership across talent, regional operations and technology areas.

Lynch has more than 20 years of experience in organisational strategy and transformation-led businesses. She previously held chief people officer positions at the RealReal and McAfee.

At Vertex, she will oversee the company’s global people and culture strategy, with responsibility for talent and organisational preparedness.

Leadership Expansion

Mercuriali has more than two decades of international leadership experience across the US, Latin America, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His background includes working on enterprise software-as-a-service, tax and compliance technology, and cloud software. He will manage Vertex’s European operations, covering regional strategy, customer relationships, partnerships and go-to-market delivery.

Chandran joins Vertex with more than 25 years of experience in technology and AI roles, including positions at Amazon and Oracle. Most recently, he was senior vice-president at Oracle Health.

He will lead product management, engineering, information security and emerging technology initiatives as Vertex advances its SaaS transition and AI-first approach.

Company Strategy

Vertex CEO Christopher Young said that the company’s customers are navigating a period of significant change, from the expansion of e-invoicing mandates and real-time compliance requirements to increasing pressure to perform more efficiently and intelligently. He added that as Vertex continues to scale globally and transform as an AI-first company, Lynch, Mercuriali and Chandran bring the leadership, operating experience and technical depth needed to strengthen the company’s impact for customers and support long-term growth.

The appointments come as Vertex positions itself for its next stage of expansion, with the leadership team now covering talent, regional operations and technology. The company’s European operations under Mercuriali will focus on regional strategy, customer relationships, partnerships and go-to-market delivery, while Chandran’s technology role will drive the company’s SaaS transition and AI-first approach.
